My bookshelf is filled with the teachings of my favorite authors. I have to admit, as I am an avid reader, I believe myself to also be a collector of the written word.
Caroline Myss has been part of my life journey since 2003. Her books are many and I will list here those that have guided me on my path. Not only have I read her books, I have journeyed to her workshops in the past, in New York City. I encourage you to check her out and see if any of these books stir your soul to awaken.
Caroline Myss is an internationally renowned pioneer in energy medicine and the author of the New York Times bestselling books Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing, Invisible Acts of Power: Personal Choices That Create Miracles and Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can. Other books are Defy Gravity: Healing Beyond the Bounds of Reason. A favorite of mine has been Entering The Castle: An Inner Path To God and Your Soul because in 2007, I attended her workshop and was blessed to have an autograph copy from her. Just the titles alone are enlightening and nourishing to my soul!
In Sacred Contracts: Awakening Your Divine Potential, Caroline Myss’s experience of working with people led her to develop an insightful and ingenious process for deciphering your own Sacred Contracts – or higher purpose – using a new theory of archetypes that builds on the works of Jung, Plato and many other contemporary thinkers. She explains how you can identify your particular spiritual energies, or archetypes – the gatekeepers of your higher purpose – and use them to help you find out what you are here on earth to learn and whom you are meant to meet. Exploring your Sacred Contract will shine a light on the purpose and meaning of your life. You are meant to do certain tasks, you are meant to have certain relationships.
In coming to know your archetypal companions, you also begin to see how to live your life in ways that make the best use of your personal power and lead you to fulfill your greatest – in fact, your divine potential. For me, Sacred Contracts is a bible for me to reference.
Anatomy of the Spirit, shows how every illness corresponds to a pattern of emotional and psychological stresses, beliefs and attitudes that have influenced corresponding areas of the human body. It also presents Dr. Myss’s breakthrough model of the body’s seven centers of spiritual and physical power in which she synthesizes the ancient wisdom of three spiritual traditions – the Hindu chakras, the Christian sacraments, and the Kabbalah’s Tree of Life – to demonstrate the seven stages through which everyone must pass in the search for higher consciousness and spiritual maturity. She shows you how you can develop your own latent powers of intuition as you simultaneously cultivate your personal power and spiritual growth. Learning about the seven stages and the change that is positive in my life through reading this book has helped me tremendously.
Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can, builds on her earlier teachings of the seven different energy centers of the body to provide a vital self-healing program for physical and spiritual disorders. She exposes and explodes the five myths about healing, explains the cultural and individual contexts in which people become physically and spiritually ill and invested in “woundology” and teaches new methods of working with the challenges that the seven energy centers embody. Dr. Myss provides rituals and prayers for gaining a symbolic perspective on your life issues; for bolstering your personal power; and for connecting medicine and her active approach to healing life issues and physical illness will help you overcome the mental blocks that keep you from becoming well. In learning about the chakras, I have been able to experience a belief and understanding of people that struggle with dis-ease.
In Defy Gravity, Healing Beyond the Bounds of Reason, Caroline Myss challenges the conventional approach to healing, which maintains that we can always find a reason for why things happen as they do. We can’t. And now it’s time to explore a model for healing that leads us into deeper and more effective truths. Drawing from her years as a medical intuitive and teacher, Myss shares real-life stories of people who were considered “terminal cases” and, through nothing short of a miracle, survived their illness. This knowledge holds the key to understanding what it means to defy gravity and break through the boundaries of ordinary thought. This inspiring book teaches you that it is possible to heal yourself and others through the power of grace. There may be reason for everything, but sometimes we do not ever know the reason why and that is fine because grace waits for all.
Invisible Acts of Power: Personal Choices That Create Miracles, Myss expands her message about power in an entirely new spiritual direction. With characteristic originality, she explains how we become channels for divine grace and a conduit for miracles through kind, compassionate, generous actions, or as she calls them, invisible acts of power. When we act compassionately, without a private agenda or expectation of credit or reward, God works invisibly, anonymously through us. And as we move from visible acts, such as giving a friend a helping hand, we undergo a profound journey of personal empowerment. Myss explores the seven stages of the practice of compassion and generosity and shows that the choice to do good, to act in service to others, is as essential to our physical and emotional health as it is to our intuitive development. In fact, she reveals, generosity is a biological and a spiritual necessity. Personally, I have learned to be of service daily by the simple act of my connection to Spirit when I am with another.
Caroline Myss has created a transcendent work of unique insight and revelation in Entering the Castle: An Inner Path to God and Your Soul. This exciting new teaching of contemporary mysticism is also a brilliant synthesis of the psychology of consciousness and of Eastern and Western mystical traditions. Myss provides a highly originally inner path to self-knowledge – which is also the road into a spiritual knowledge of God and your own soul – as she reveals a necessary external path, one that takes you out into the world to serve God and others as a mystic without a monastery – without having to retreat into total silence, self-denial, or isolation. In writing this blog, I decided to re-read this book because it was so profound for me the first time.
As a seeker of truth and a believer in the written word to inspire and change me on my personal journey and path, I ask you to pay attention to your body as you read this blog and see if anything stirs within. Just maybe one of these books can open a new world for you to discover about yourself.
